“True strength comes from love that produces gentleness, which in turn creates miracles.”
Laura Lane from ‘I Touch the Heavens‘
The last few weeks I have been spending my Friday afternoons at Pura VIda Equine Therapy Ranch. As the owner and therapist Lyn and I talk and spend time with the horses we’ve been reflecting on the spiritual strength it takes to face our most difficult moments in life.
Those discussions reminded me of the collection of quotes that I have gathered over the years to inspire and encourage me during challenging times.
I hope that you will appreciate them as much as I do.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” Mahatma Gandhi
“Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that’s true strength.” Unknown
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Nelson Mandela
“We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up, seeing it is not as dreadful as it appeared, discovering we have the strength to stare it down.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“While it is true that most people respect strength, they don’t always associate it with gentleness. But it is always from strength that gentleness arises. It is always from strength that we learn not to condemn weakness or fear or anger. Strength encourages us to empathize, to be more adaptable and make allowances. If we really wish to bring someone into our hearts
and minds, a little gentleness is a powerful attraction.” Leo Buscaglia
“Courage isn’t having the strength to go on—it is going on when you don’t have strength.” Napoleon Bonaparte
“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.” Vincent van Gogh
“When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Hope makes the impossible possible. Strength is contagious and courage is doing what we never thought we could do, doing it despite the fear, despite the dread, despite the pain and heartache. Hope can be given to others. It gives us strength and courage and then hope grows.” Lorna Byrne
“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Christopher Reeve
“Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength” Saint Francis de Sales
Let me know which ones resonate with you the most.
“Spiritual strength is acknowledging the unseen forces of the universe, the Divine and the angelic and having faith enough to ask for and receive that help.”
Laura Lane from ‘I Touch the Heavens‘
